where and how to report a crime.

The San Diego Community College Police Bicycle Team was created in 1998 to reduce crime, improve officer mobility and help foster relationships with the campus communities our officers serve. Using specialized equipment, training and patrol tactics, team members provide a level of service which cannot be matched by police officers on foot or in marked police cars.

The program fields six police officers and two College Service Officers. Officers are integrated into patrol squads and ride on a daily basis when classes are in session.

Bike team members are in top physical condition. All members of the team are certified bike officers and have attended a state certified POST Basic Bicycle Training Course. The team conducts in-house training sessions that consist of technical riding, officer safety, obstacle course, team building skills and firearms training. Two members are POST certified bicycle instructors. Our instructors assist other agencies with training and development of their bike programs.

Our bicycle team has a strong working relationship with the San Diego Police Department. The team patrols neighborhoods surrounding our campuses. And it participates periodically in joint operations to combat gang activity and crime affecting the homeless population in downtown San Diego.

In order to keep up with new technologies in the bicycle industry, our bike team conducts field research on bicycles. The team has identified three that meet the high specifications the bike team demands. Based on our findings the team operates the GT I-drive, Trek Fuels and the Trek Liquids. These bikes are light weight and cost effective. All offer dual suspensions with adjustable lock out.
