The San Diego
Community College Police Department is a community policing agency.
We see ourselves as a part of the college community and strive to
work with the college community to provide a safe learning
environment for our students, faculty, staff, visitors, neighbors
and guests.
We believe in
problem solving to identify and deal with community issues. We
prefer community members consult us before serious problems arise,
instead of waiting for after-the-fact intervention.
We believe each
member of the college community bears some responsibility for campus
security. To that end, we solicit information from community members
and provide information and training so that community members may
better deal with the challenges we all face.
We believe in and
foster partnerships. We work closely with campus safety committees,
Student Affairs offices and Facility Services personnel. Externally
we enjoy a working relationship with the San Diego Police Department
and the San Diego City Schools Police.
We strive to make
our officers visible and approachable. Our officers walk campuses
daily and we have a strong commitment to bicycle patrols.
We encourage
participation. We offer opportunities to students for employment,
work study programs, and internships.
We believe in crime
prevention through environmental design. Working with District
architects and planners, we review existing facilities and new
construction plans to reduce or eliminate conditions conducive to
crime.
We believe working together is a more effective way to deal with
crime and disorder. If you would like to help, contact us at any
College Police office location or e-mail us at: police@sdccd.edu
