Keeping our college communities safe
is a collaborative effort. College Police, Facilities Services
personnel, faculty, staff, students, and our neighbors all play a
role in identifying unsafe conditions, reporting crime and alerting
others to suspicious people and circumstances.
Part of our
commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment is rapidly
addressing issues. Not
only do we want a safe campus, we want a campus where people feel
safe. Creating this
environment requires constant vigilance and quick response to
perceived problems.
Issues that warrant
immediate attention include graffiti, poor or inoperative lighting,
water leaks, and other maintenance conditions. Suspicious behavior
includes person loitering after classes are over for the day,
persons loading district property into private vehicles or persons
using drugs, alcohol or carrying weapons.
Fights, loud
arguments or other disturbances should be reported.
Everyone
is urged to program the College Police Dispatch telephone number (619)
388-6405 into their cell phone. Suspicious conditions can also be reported by using the
emergency telephones located in most parking lots on campus.
Reporting crime is everyone's
responsibility. If you see a crime being committed on or around
campus or are a victim of a crime, report it immediately.
Dispatch is available 24 hours
a day, seven days a week including holidays. Dispatch's phone
number is 619-388-6405. Always, if you have a life
threatening medical emergency call 9- 911(on district phones) or 911
(pay phones or cell phones).
Dispatch will send an available officer to your location. It is important
that you give the dispatcher as much information as possible.
The dispatcher may ask you the following questions:
-
What is your phone number
-
What is your name?
-
What is your location?
-
What exactly is happening?
Describe what is going on.
-
Is the crime happening now or happened at some other time?
-
What is the description of the person
committing the crime?
-
Are they driving a vehicle?
Describe the vehicle/license plate# etc...
-
Are there any weapons
involved? Where are the weapons now?
-
Where is the suspect now?
-
Is there anyone hurt, where are
they and what are their injuries?
