Established in
1993, the San Diego Community College Police Defensive Tactics
Program was created with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of
Investigations, San Diego Sheriffs, and San Diego Police. The
program meets or exceeds State of
California
standards established by the Commission on Peace Officers Standards
and Training (POST).
Our program has
produced seven defensive tactics instructors. Our instructors
collectively possess certifications, experience or training in many
different subject areas such as Arrest and Controls, Emergency
Medical Technician, and Critical Incident Negotiation. We have
instructor development courses, training for sworn officers, and
training for non-sworn personnel.
We have been
innovative in the implementation of effective techniques, team work,
and integration of legal knowledge and skills into scenario based
training. We train officers to reasonably and effectively deal with
difficult, dynamic situations. You may contact the detac team by
