The College Special Investigations unit (CSI) is located at the District Service Center and works for the Office of the Chief of Police. Some of the assignments of the CSI unit include:

Recruitment

The Recruitment Team of the College Police Department is charged with the responsibility of overseeing and controlling aspects of the personnel selection process, including recruiting, background investigations and processing of applicants who are seeking to be employed by our Department.

CSI staff

The team acts as a liaison between the San Diego Community College District’s Human Resources Department and the College Police Department.
Detectives in the Background Investigation Unit follow Peace Officer Standards and Training Regulations (P.O.S.T.) and are members of the California Backgrounds Investigators Association.
Training Management

The Training Manager is responsible for coordinating and scheduling training for all members of the College Police Department. This includes maintaining training records to ensure our Department meets P.O.S.T. and other requirements. The Training Manager is a member of the San Diego County Training Managers Association.

Internal Affairs
Under the direction of the Administrative Sergeant, the Internal Affairs Unit's responsibilities are dictated by California state statute and require the College Police Department to investigate all citizens’ complaints filed against our personnel. Our policy and procedures also authorize Internal Affairs to initiate administrative investigations, for good cause, based on information from sources other than citizens.
Special Investigations
Under the direction of the Administrative Sergeant, the College Special Investigations Unit handles sensitive cases and provides investigative support services for the uniformed patrol officers.
Sexual Offender Registration

Under the direction of the Administrative Sergeant, the Sexual Offender Registration Unit of the College Police Department has jurisdiction under California Law (Section 290.01 of the Penal Code) to register sex offenders who attend or work at the San Diego Community College District. Every person required to register under Section 290 of the Penal Code (see section 290.01 for exceptions) must register in person with the College Police Sexual Offender Registration Unit. The Sexual Offender Registration Unit works with the California Department of Justice Sexual Habitual Offender Program and the San Diego County Sex Offender Management Council.

Members of the San Diego Community College District may schedule an appointment with the Sexual Offender Registration Unit to view information on the sex offenders registered at their facility.
