Locker Room Thefts
March 1, 2005
During the past several months, College Police has received numerous reports of thefts from the men’s locker room at San Diego City College.
The men’s locker room has had an ongoing problem with thefts from the lockers. During last 2004 Fall semester and the current 2005 Spring semester the thefts have intensified and occurred more frequently. The locks have been cut off lockers and student’s property has been removed and taken. Because of the men’s locker-room location and convenient access it is easy for anyone to walk in and out quickly and undetected.
What can you do?
Here are some steps you can take to help College Police curb the thefts. While it is impossible to make the lockers theft proof, these thefts will assist in helping the thefts become less frequent.
Always use a lock; never assume your belongings will be safe in an unlocked locker.
Be vigilant, report any suspicious people loitering inside the locker room or around the outside of the gym.
Do not leave valuables in the locker; take your wallets, keys, phones, etc…with you. If no valuables are inside the lockers, the less tempting they will be.
Do not confront anyone tampering with a lock, cal College Police immediately at (619) 388-6405.
Program your cell phone with the College Police phone number, (619) 388-6405.
Use a hardened steel lock. This is more difficult to cut and will give the thief more trouble.
Report all thefts to the police.
If you have any information about crimes which have occurred or may occur on or near campus, you may report it by calling College Police at (619) 388-6405, the San Diego Police Department at (619) 531-2000 or crime stoppers at (619) 235-TIPS. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
